"It seemed like a great spot where we could be at the center of the concerts, parades and a really busy intersection," Better Buzz marketing vice president Amanda Cameron told Las Vegas Weekly in September. She was explaining why the San Diego coffee chain put its newest drive-thru at the corner of Water Street and Lake Mead Parkway.
That quote explains downtown Henderson's December this year. The events are the same ones the city runs every year. Shop Small Business Saturday comes first, then the WinterFest tree lighting and drone show, then the Electric Light Parade. Along Water Street itself, three businesses opened in 2026, and at least one said outright that it picked its location for the crowds these nights bring. Their hours fit before and after each event in a way Water Street couldn't offer a year ago.
Nine Years With One Coffee Bar
Architect Windom Kimsey opened Public Works Coffee Bar in 2017. He had been biking around Water Street as the district started to develop and couldn't find "a true coffee shop," according to Las Vegas Weekly. He built one himself, with house-roasted coffee and a breakfast menu made with bread from Chef Flemming's Bake Shop down the street.
For nine years, the Weekly reported, Public Works was the only dedicated coffee shop on Water Street. On parade nights and plaza afternoons, the district's coffee supply came down to one counter at 314 S. Water St.
Kimsey welcomes the new arrivals. "I do not see more people as competitors. That's sort of the Water Street mantra," he told the Weekly. "For the most part, we all want everybody to succeed."
The 2026 Openings, Next to the One That Came First
Two coffee businesses and a cocktail lounge opened this year, all within reach of the plaza and the parade route. Public Works stays in the table as the starting point.
| Stop | Location | Opened | What it serves |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public Works Coffee Bar | 314 S. Water St. | 2017 | House-roasted coffee, breakfast on Chef Flemming's bread |
| The Coffee Class | 37 S. Water St., in the 1962 Town House Motor Lodge building | Spring 2026 | Espresso drinks made with Onyx Coffee Lab beans, pastries, spinach crab benedict, French dip au jus |
| Terminal 4 | Second floor of 37 S. Water St. | Late summer 2026 | Global cocktails modeled on Mexico City speakeasies |
| Better Buzz | Drive-thru at Water Street and Lake Mead Parkway | June 2026 | Vanilla americano "Best Drink Ever," breakfast sandwiches, açaà bowls |
The Coffee Class building is the biggest change. Owner Kyle Cunningham planned it as a three-story flagship. The coffee house, bakery and café are on the ground floor, a cocktail and whiskey bar is on the second, and a rooftop for weekend brunch, seasonal gatherings and private events is on the third, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Right now The Coffee Class books the rooftop for private events, with weekday availability and weekend evening events.
Better Buzz started as a single coffee cart in 2002 and now has 60 locations across California, Arizona and Nevada. The Water Street drive-thru is its sixth in Nevada. Its signature drink has a version topped with house-made banana pudding cold cream.
Terminal 4's Hours Match the Two WinterFest Nights
The tree lighting ends at 7:30 p.m. on a Thursday. The parade ends at 8:30 p.m. on a Friday. For years, the district's bars and restaurants have had the after-event crowd to themselves. This December, a cocktail lounge built for longer evenings is open those nights as well.
Terminal 4's posted hours on its OpenTable reservation page are 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Sunday and 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Both WinterFest nights fall inside those hours, with at least two hours left after each event ends.
The name is an airport joke. "Harry Reid International Airport only has a Terminal 1 and a Terminal 3. Terminal 2 was retired years ago, and Terminal 4 has never existed," Cunningham told the Review-Journal. "We decided to build it ourselves." Each cocktail on the menu he previewed is tied to a country:
- Tupac Sour (Peru): Pisco, habanada pepper, citrus, fire bitters and soft foam
- Dua Lipa (Spain): olive oil-washed vodka, fino sherry, verjus, vanilla and a smoke bubble
- Musa (Ecuador): espresso and a banana peel liqueur on an aged rum base
Cunningham called the bar a test for the district. "We want Henderson residents to feel that this belongs to them and that they helped prove a concept of this level can succeed here," he told the Review-Journal. The city's redevelopment plan for the Water Street District calls for new housing, lodging, independent retail, food and drink, and entertainment venues, and Terminal 4 has joined that ongoing revitalization.
The December Calendar, With the New Stops Added

Shop Small Business Saturday is the daytime event on Water Street. The City of Henderson lists more than 100 local businesses, live entertainment, children's activities, free treats and Santa on the plaza.
The tree lighting is the WinterFest opener. It's free, presented by Nevada State Bank, and this year features The Swingles, a vocal group with five Grammy Awards and more than 60 years of performing. Local chorus groups, food vendors and a drone show are also on the bill. The parade the next night brings bands, cheer teams and floats down historic Water Street, and the city expects the procession itself to last about 90 minutes within the 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. window.
The Elf Hunt is a registration-required, self-paced scavenger hunt for all ages at the Bird Viewing Preserve. Participants get a map and a sticker set and search for elves like Featherbell near the hummingbirds and Pinecone Pete under the mesquites. Gates open at 7 a.m., early enough to grab coffee on the way.
The Rest of the Street on Event Nights
Before 2026, a Water Street event night ran on the district's established restaurants and bars, and they're still the core of it. The Review-Journal's January guide to the district covers the long-standing options within a few blocks of the plaza:
- Chef Flemming's Bakeshop, 7 S. Water St., for European-style pastries, from the same bakery that supplies Public Works' bread
- Juan's Flaming Fajitas & Cantina, 16 S. Water St., for fajitas and margaritas
- Lovelady Brewing Company, 20 S. Water St., home of the Love Juice hazy IPA
- Gold Mine Tavern, 23 S. Water St., a long-running live-music bar with rock, blues, funk and country
- Mojave Brewing Company, 107 S. Water St., for house-brewed beer and a pinball game room
- Biscuits and Bourbon, 109 S. Water St., for whiskey, smoked meats and biscuits
- Johnny Mac's Water Street Tavern, 117 S. Water St., for wings and weekend live music
- Chinitas Tapas & Sushi, 147 S. Water St., for Mexican and Asian dishes like tostadas and sashimi
- Wine on Water Street, 150 S. Water St., for wine and charcuterie
- Azzurra Wine Shop & Bar at 314 S. Water St. and Azzurra Cucina Italia next door at 322, for wine by the glass and Italian dishes like meatballs and linguine with clams
The new businesses fill specific gaps around these places. The Coffee Class and Terminal 4 share 37 S. Water St., a few doors up the numbering from Lovelady at 20 and Gold Mine at 23. Public Works and the Azzurra pair are clustered further south at 314 and 322. Better Buzz is the only drive-thru of the group, at the Lake Mead Parkway corner.
Getting In and Out on WinterFest Nights
The city's WinterFest page covers how to get there, and a few of its rules shape how the evening goes:
- Parking is free in two garages. The Water Street Parking Garage at 235 S. Water St. is across from the plaza, with its entrance on Texas Avenue. The City Hall Parking Garage is entered from Basic Road. There are also several free lots in the district.
- There's no shuttle. The city recommends arriving early if you drive and walking, biking or scootering if you live nearby.
- Leave pets at home. Pets aren't allowed except certified assistance animals. Coolers, outside alcohol, umbrellas and pop-up tents are also prohibited, and you can't ride skateboards, scooters or bikes inside the event and parade area.
- Bags are subject to search. The whole event is outdoors, and children under 16 must be with a parent or guardian.
The city notes that the WinterFest schedule can change or be canceled without notice. Check its page the week of the event.
